Weathermen all over Victoria were getting excited today, for they would shine as brightly as the sun and report that summer had finally arrived with Melbourne’s first heatwave of the year. In fact, today Melbourne was the hottest city in Australia, just beating Adelaide by 0.8 degrees.
It just so happened that today was booked for us to run some final errands before the big departure day, and one of our stops was at Melbourne Metro YHA in North Melbourne. This YHA hostel is eco-tourism accredited and utilises solar hot water, electronic thermostats and a comprehensive recycling program.
We had a look around and really loved the atmosphere of this place. There is a cafe that serves up great food and hosts regular social nights, while the Rooftop deck upstairs has facilities for a twilight BBQ. There is plenty of tourism information available on the ground floor and the community corkboard even advertises jobs that are ideal for travellers.
